In ancient greece their were two superior city states, the Atens and the Sparta. The Spartans were all about war, they trained their kids all about war starting at the age of 6. When the Children were born some of the men brought the babies up on a mountain to see if they were strong enough to be a spartan, and if they weren't then they were thrown off the edge of the cliff. If the children proved to be strong enough they enrolled in the military for their whole lives and weren't even allowed to sleep at their house if they were married, they slept in the barracks. They say that one Spartan is just a regular soldier, but together the Spartans were one of the best armies ever in the history of the world.The Persian War is the major war for the Greeks. It was Persia versus the whole Greek city-states, sometimes they fought alone but many of the times they fought side by side against the Persians.The Battle of Salamis told how strong the Athenian Navy was, they totally crushed the Persian fleet they won by having small and better monuverable boats. Another desicive battle was the battle of Themopyle, that is were 100,000 persians faced up agains 300 Spartans. The Spartans would have won if it wasnt for a traitor who told the persians how to come up behind the Spartans.The other city state, Athens. The athenians were not all about war like the neigboring sparta was. The athenians taught their kids about art and literature and even education, some of the best teachers came out of Athens. Some of those teachers include Socraties and Plato some of the best and wiseist teachers ever. Athens only had 30,000 citizens and a total of 300,000 people, to be a citizen you had to have special criteria.

Socrates: He was a classical Greek philosopher and considered as one of the founders of western philosophy, he was well known for his contributions to ethics.
Homer: Great Ancient Greece epic poet, Iliad and other great poems were creations of Homer.

Acropolis: A huge fortified are at the top of a hill, served as a refuge area during attacks, usually at the center of the castle and raised higher than any other building.
Hoplites: Heavily armed infantry soldiers or foot soldiers that were used to defend towns and city's and were the main line in army's.
Democracy: Government by the people or rule of the many, democracy stated that everyone who was a citizen could vote on who their leaders would be.
Helots: People captured by the Spartans and had to do what they were told, these people were often farmers and were out of the castles protection when they were caught.
Ehpors: A group of five men elected each year who were responsible for the educations of youth and the conduct of all citizens.
